Design a professional life that works for you - using principles from life design, rapid prototyping, effective altruism, and futures thinking.
Want to build a professional life that actually means something to you? Or realized your current job doesn't give you energy anymore? In this hybrid course, you'll learn to treat your lived purpose not as one big decision to get right, but as something you can prototype: try it, get feedback, adjust, try again. We combine Life Design approaches, impact and purpose work, and hands-on tools for self-management, networking, and pitching yourself. In the course project, you'll take this out into the real world and put your ideas to the test. You won't leave with a finished plan for the rest of your life (sorry, not sorry), but with a lot more security on how to always find your way, no matter what life throws at you.
You might be coming into this course wanting to design a purposeful professional life for yourself. You might be coming in with a strong frustration about one or more issues in the world, and a wish to dedicate yourself to solving them. You might be looking for orientation without a concrete goal — hoping for guidance on how to figure out what drives you in the first place. Or maybe you're changing gears, moving away from one professional path and looking for the next one. Whatever your starting point, you're welcome here.
What we do ask is that you bring genuine excitement to take the ideas you develop in this course out into the real world. This isn't a course for (only) reflecting on yourself in a safe space — it's about putting things into practice and gathering real data on what works for you and what doesn't.
Finally, you should be reasonably comfortable communicating in English, as it's the main course language. Most of us will have learned English as a second language, so perfection isn't expected — but we do want you to be able to actively participate and communicate.
