Beschreibung

The Energy Technologies Certificate Program is a 30-ECTS, fully online, English-language program designed for advanced international Bachelor students in electrical engineering, information technology, materials science, physics, and related fields. The program introduces key areas of the global energy transition, including renewable energy systems, power electronics for electromobility, advanced energy materials, and communication technologies for smart energy systems. Through high-quality video lectures, interactive self-study materials, and a final project module, students gain interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills in energy conversion, storage, and intelligent power systems. The certificate prepares participants for Master’s studies at Kiel University - especially in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Materials Science - and strengthens their qualifications for careers in future-oriented energy technologies.

Course Structure

Across four thematically connected modules, complemented by a project course, you will explore:

  • how renewable energy is harvested and integrated into modern grids,
  • how power electronics enable efficient energy conversion,
  • how energy-relevant materials - from batteries to piezoelectrics - shape next-generation technologies,
  • and how communication, sensing, and signal processing make intelligent energy systems possible.

The program brings together experts from multiple institutes at Kiel University and beyond, presenting state-of-the-art research and real-world engineering applications through high-quality video lectures, interactive materials, and self-paced learning.

Zielgruppe(n)

This certificate program targets students in Schleswig-Holstein as well as international students interested in joining Kiel University. It is on an advanced engineering bachelor level. As prerequesites engineering mathematics, physics, and fundamentals of electrical engineering are expected.
