Beschreibung
The workshop of the ensemble Open Family is open to all students of any faculty of the Musikhochschule Lübeck, who have deep interest and curiousity in the practices of contemporary musics. It is a music lecture discussing questions of contemporary music in the widest sense: improvised and composed/interpreted music, artistical aesthetics regarding musical material, form and architecture, as well as history (individual and collective musical backgrounds/roots), compositional thinking, spontaneity, roles of various functions of mind in realtime performance/creation, specific instrument-related questions, and about ensemble improvisation with acoustic and electronic instruments.
The ensemble will give a lecture performance to trigger thoughts and questions, as well as to offer students the possibility to improvise together with members of the ensemble.
Additionally Thomas Lehn will give a short demonstration of his EMS analogue synthesizer.
All participants who want to participate actively are welcome to bring their own instruments for active workshop participation. Passive participation as a listener is also possible.
about Open Family :
Instruments from four different genres open up a spectral soundscape for the quartet’s music, drawing listeners into the depths of imaginary landscapes. Rooted in many years of experience as both improvisers and interpreters, the group combines the spontaneity and immediacy of improvisational art with the architectural, form-shaping forces of compositional awareness in the realtime creation of music. The ensemble celebrated its premiere in November 2024 during Wien Modern festival.
Visiting Lecturers:

Alessandra Rombolà (flute), Tiziana Bertoncini (violin), Ingar Zach (percussion, gran cassa, electronics), Thomas Lehn (EMS Synthi AKS analogue synthesizer)
