Intercultural Communication and Media Analysis

Prepare to immerse yourself in a learning experience that bridges cultural gaps, challenges perceptions, and empowers you to become a more effective communicator in today's interconnected world.

Beschreibung

We presume that we are living in a globalized world, and a significant part of the student body at Muthesius Kunsthochschule is from outside Germany. This serves as solid evidence of the intercultural nature of our community. However, the depth of cultural diversity should be explored both theoretically and practically. Drawing on the Cultural Dimensions Theory by renowned Dutch social psychologist Geert Hofstede, we will learn to navigate and analyze diverse cultural contexts, understand cultural influences on media portrayals, and develop effective strategies for cross-cultural communication.

Media analysis is an essential component of this course, acting as a compass that helps us avoid becoming confined to a local perspective, instead allowing us to view our communication through an intercultural lens.

This course is offered in collaboration with Prof. Tom Duscher’s class, “Science Communication.” Participants might have the opportunity to join a study trip to Vilnius from May 25-28.
