Media reception studies are based on the premise that audiences often interpret messages differently—sometimes even contradictorily—than the message designers intended. Many factors can explain this phenomenon. In this course, we focus on the intercultural aspects and apply the Cultural Dimensions Theory developed by renowned Dutch social psychologist Geert Hofstede.
Participants in this course might have the opportunity to join a study trip to Vilnius from May 25-28.
By analyzing examples from various cultures, we will develop a nuanced understanding of how cultural values and histories shape artistic expression and audience reception. Engage in discussions, case studies, and reflective projects that will enhance your ability to critically assess cultural narratives and interpretations.
